A
quick update on what Ross and Laura are doing.
We are still working on the boat. Still? Yes. … We are currently
hauled out of the water in Port Townsend, WA completing a FULL re-power – aka
new sails, new rigging and a new diesel engine. That last item was a doozy and not expected. Our boat has not been livable for the last two
months, so we have been living elsewhere.
Our apartment is
the second floor of a house in the middle of a beautiful hedged garden
of flowers and fruit trees. I even made a pear cobbler with some of the
fruit. We are close to town, our boat and work... work? Yes, we both
work at West Marine, when not on the boat. (We get a great discount on
boating goods.)
After close to two months of living in our land-based oasis, we are
moving back on to New Dawn. We still have a few systems and a mess of
stuff to work on before we head south in about 3 weeks.
PS- We are still here and we do not think we will make the weather
window South. We are, however, enjoying the Wooden Boat Festival,
The Rose movie theater with its fabulous popcorn and auditioning for
staged readings with the local theater company. We are
completing our rigging with Brion Toss Yacht Riggers. We love
these guys! Fun and knowledgeable. We have learned so much,
we are now splicing our lines and doing other apprentice rigger skills.
YEAH!!!
