Blue skies, warm waters, great food and no schedule.

What more could a couple want in a honeymoon, sailing through the Virgin Islands.

We had such fun traveling and living together in a sailing pace of life, that we decided to see more of the world in the same fashion.

     The Story:

We flew to St. Thomas the day after our wedding. we arrived and hopped into a taxi that drove very fast on one-lane roads that twisted and turned and gained elevation to take us to a stunning view of the island.  Then on down to the harbor where we found the boat we had chartered- Avanti, a 32-foot Island Packet.  She had lovely lines and was stocked full of food.  We stayed up that night and started reading the new Harry Potter book to each other in our cockpit with a travel light.  It was warm and lovely.  The harbor gently rocked our boat.  The next morning we met our captain for the day.  He went out with us and made sure we knew how to run all the systems and anchor and dock and steer and…  we checked out okay and dropped him off at the ferry terminal on St. John Island that evening.

We were so excited to be on this adventure-

We called our parents to share it.  That was the last time our cell phone worked since the next day we crossed into British waters and our carrier did not work there.  The water was warm, there were tons of fish to see when we snorkeled and even one morning when they were jumping so much they sounded like rain.

Laura had to admit, she got hooked on sailing and loved making the boat go just a little bit faster. J
